To protect your front doors we use a marine spar varnish, not polyurethane or urethane base varnishes. We use a marine spar varnish that is made from Tung oil resin. Tung oil provides the optimum protection for doors from the harsh elements and provides flexibility of the wood.
Urethane varnishes, even if they have UV inhibitors, are still prone to sun damage and will cause yellowing, cracking, and then eventually flaking and peeling.
Maintenance of doors with urethane resin varnishes will have to be done more frequently then with a marine spar varnish.
